In this segment of LET'S BE NOSEY we will interview women on their beauty secrets and aspirations.
Let's all meet Tahlia knowles (@tahliaknowles)
She is the creator of Beauty Compass (@beautycompass) - an online directory for all your beauty needs based in Brisbane, Australia.
Hi Tahlia, could you tell us a little about yourself?
Hi Jess! Of course. So I have lived my whole life in Brisbane. As much as I love to travel, Brisbane will always have my heart. I hold strong emotional connections to places and people and that is why Brisbane will always be number one, even if I do move away. In Brisbane, as stated above, I run Beauty Compass, an online directory that supports and promote our local beauty experts and as an added bonus, makes it easier to find beauty destinations!
Can you explain what beauty compass is?
Beauty Compass is an online destination that makes it easier to find local salons! Beauty lovers search for services via our integrated filtering system. They hit search & the compass points them to their next beauty location!
How did you come up with this unique idea?
A few of my friends had started their own beauty salons and I was also getting beauty services done at home salons by stay at home mums and other young girls. Ultimately, I really wanted to create a service that helped my friends who had just started out and stay at home mums who seek the convenience of being with their children while still providing for their family.
Did you always want to start your own business?
I wanted to start my own business if I 110% believed in something!
Is there someone you always looked up to?
Honestly, I look up to a lot of people. I love seeing the best in people and I find it inspirational when others can whole heartedly care for those around them. My parents have always supported me saying, 'you can do absolutely anything you want to do' and this made me want to pursue a dream rather than a job.
When you go to a business meeting, what do you do to make you feel more sophisticated?
MAISON FRANCIS KURKDJIAN Baccarat Rouge 540 EDP, need I say more?
What did you do prior to Beauty Compass?
Since launching Beauty Compass, life hasn't drastically changed. I still study Exercise and Nutrition Science at The University of Queensland and work casually. The only difference is now I work in the beauty industry, rather then the health industry (although, skin health right haha....)
What is your favourite treatment to get done?
My favourite treatment would have to be a facial. Life can get so hectic and it is paramount to take care of your health! This can be as simple as taking some time out from your busy schedule and treating yourself to a microderm or oxygen infusion! Beauty Compass has listings from some of Brisbane's BEST facialists!
Do you love to splurge on skincare or makeup?
Skincare, every single time!
What is your skin type and what is your skincare routine like at home?
Morning
Cleanse twice (always twice) with Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm
Tilika lipocils expert lash enhancer
Omorovicza reviving eye cream
M.E.SKIN Lab essence 27 bio-vitalising cell hydrating fluid
Omorovicza illuminating moisturiser
Night
Cleanse twice (always twice) with Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm
Tilika lipocils expert lash enhancer
Omorovicza reviving eye cream
M.E.SKIN Lab essence 27 bio-vitalising cell hydrating fluid
Omorovicza rejuvenating night cream
Exfoliator
Goldfaden M.D. doctor's scrub
I have a skincare OBSESSION!
Do you believe diet plays a big part in your skins health?
Having a background in nutrition and exercise science, it is hard to ignore the link between diet and skin health!
Do you have a makeup routine? If so, what is it?
I guess I do. I am definitely not as meticulous with my makeup, as I am with skincare.
Primer- Mecca hydrating primer and too faced primed and poreless
Foundation- Nars sheer glow
Concealer- By Terry Terrybly Densiliss concealer
Contour- too faced cocoa contour kit
Bronzer- Nars laguna
Blush- Nars deep throat
Setting powder- Hourglass Ambient lighting palette
Highlight- Mecca Cosmetica powder highlighter
Brows- Hourglass arch brow sculpting pencil
Eyeshadow- my absolute go to is Stila 'Soul' palette!
Mascara- Kevin Aucoin the volume mascara
... and I think that's it! Maybe I am quite into makeup too!
What product do you always have on you?
I'm the most disorganised and forgetful human out! So, I always have different things on my every single day!
And lastly, where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Haha that's such a hard one! Being a massive 'dreamer' I could say a million things... I change my mind like the wind! I guess we'll have to wait and see.
